I’ve watched this most heart warming video sometime last year about
this amazing computer science guru and I was totally amazed by his
passion, determination and intelligence.

Unfortunately he had just passed away only a couple of days ago.

He was the most respected Carnegie Mellon University Professor in
the field of Virtual Reality. He was loved as a teacher and mentor by
many.

There are so many things that we can learn from Professor Randy
Pausch. My favourite on his lecture has to be about his ‘brick walls’
story and of course his favourite quote,

“When you screw up and nobody is saying anything to you anymore
then that means they have given up!”

I think we all can agree that most of you reading this blog want to succeed in everything you do. You want to be accepted, feel appreciated and being recognised for your work or contribution.

You strive your very best to succeed and do everything that there is to do. You follow your role models, read instructional books, bought training programs and to implement what you’ve learned, you invested your own money to start your own projects.

Some of it started off okay and some it were complete failures. You made some changes, implemented new strategies and yet you still fail.

The funds are draining fast and you starting to doubt.

You doubt your abilities, you doubt your chances of success and you doubt whether if you really are meant to do what you do.

To cut further failures and financial losses, you stop everything that you’ve started; things that you’ve worked so hard on and spent so much time trying to make things work.

At the same time too, you see many people in the same business you’re in who are raking so much money and enjoying great success but since it is not happening to you…you just gave up.

You think maybe it’s just not your luck.. and you call it quits!

Has this happened to you?

Maybe the story is not exactly what you’ve experience, but can you relate to this story?

How many people have you seen that surrendered to failure and gave up?

Think about it for a second…

Do they or you deserve it?

Now let me make an honest confession…

Everything that you’ve read above had happened to me and so did to my friends who are now earning their millions.

For them, failure is not an option. They just keep on going and will not stop till their goals are reached.

Of course, throughout that journey they may fail and have to face pressing obstacles again but this cannot be considered as a reason for permanent failure. Instead, they move on and this time with greater bravado.

They continue that journey.

That journey is now armed with a better strategy together with an unbeatable determination and certainty.

Finally, they succeed and all that hard work and patience finally paid off.

Imagine if they gave up less than half way of that journey…

All that wealth, happiness and success would just be a part of an imaginary dream. Nothing is real.

You must never give up. You cannot give yourself excuses when you want to succeed. You must carry on and do it.

You see, I believe that no one living on this planet deserve to be living a meagre existence. I believe that everyone has the potential to be all they want to be.

So never give up. Brave up to the challenge and just do it.

We all know you can do it.

I was surfing around my Youtube account today and I accidentally found a new service from Youtube that allows users to track who has been watching their videos and numerous vital traffic statistics.

This may mean nothing to most people but it is more like a God send for any online marketers out there who’re keen in improving their videos and overall traffic.

Basically, you’ll get access to the following:

• How Many Views Your Videos Are Getting.
• Which Are Your Most Watched Videos.
• Who are viewing your channel - split by sex and age.
• and video popularity.

All of the data are shown in a nice layout with clean graphics. To access your Youtube Insight data, login to your Youtube account ==> My Account ==> YouTube Insight.

I welcome such a service. I can now track, analyse and improve on all of my videos.

This free service will give me more control over my videos and I can now begin to ‘test’ on most of my marketing videos from now on.

Unfortunately, the data is not as extensive compared to Google Analytics but it’s still a good tool.

So, bravo Youtube!

I met a friend of mine about 6 years ago and he’s an extremely ambitious and determined individual. He still runs a successful London based wireless telecommunication company and his business seems to be growing rapidly since I last heard from him.

He’s a great guy and I have great admiration for him.

During one of our meetings over lunch many years ago, he talked about how people can make their own luck by doing the right things that most successful people do. If you do it constantly enough, you will eventually reach your goal.

Well, I agree - Partially.

I agree that if you did the right things combined with time and unfaltering determination then success will soon welcome you to its doors. However without luck, your journey in reaching your goals will consume more time, money and effort; not forgetting that you will also have to overcome whatever threats your business bring to you.

How do I mean by this?

Well, sometimes you have to be at a certain point, at the right time and place to get that ‘distinct’ advantage.

For example, say that you’re on a flight to Tokyo and you were sitting next to a well suited man. You decide to start a conversation with him.

During the conversation, he mentioned to you about how dissappointed he was with his current vendor and he couldn’t seem to find any trustworthy and dependable alternatives.

He has been trying for many months and you could literally see the dismay on is face.

Somehow, your eyes beamed. You couldn’t believe what he was saying.

The potential supplier that he was talking about has your name written all over it. You’ve got plenty of supplies with many happy and repeat customers willing to give you genuine business testimonials.

In the end, you explained to him about your business and how your business could be the perfect partner in his business. You told him about how you are always able to deliver on what is agreed and that your customer service is always there to meet any additional demands he requires.

Both of you agreed to meet at his office with his marketing team in two weeks and you exchanged business cards.

Two weeks later, you come out of the business meeting with a £1 million business contract and a huge smile on your face.

None of that could have happened if you didn’t take the flight and that if the airline didn’t give you the seat sitting next to that man.

I know that this is just an example and it may not apply to you. But I hope you can reflect back to your own personal experience and analyse how luck had made an impact to your life and goals.

Luck is not something that you can plan. It just happens. The question that matters most is how you’re going to seize that opportunity and quickly reap the benefit from it.

There is a lot of confusion with the majority of the public today about wealth. When people think of wealth building or the accumulation of wealth, they think of making more money and spending less money.

Yes there is some truth in that. It’s certainly difficult to deny that.

But most importantly, we cannot hide from the fact that the majority of people who craves for wealth tend to fail in achieving their true wealth. A great many of them have invested intense amount of determination, time and effort to achieve that goal and yet time and time again, failure seems to dominate their fate.

This is definitely not a statistic that most people can be proud or brag about. But if one wants to achieve it badly enough then what are the exact steps he or she should do to really change their financially dire situations and how can they start to really pumping some real cold hard cash flowing into their bank accounts?

Perhaps the one question that requires an immediate answer is this: How can people achieve wealth quickly and secure the highest return with the least amount of risk?

You’ve probably realised by now that I have not updated my Ambar Hamid blog since late November 2007.

No, I have not forgotten about you…….. although I admit time constraints did play a minor role in this

Now let me explain…

During the first week of December, my hosting company suffered a major security breach on their internal computer systems. Rumours had it that the hackers gained complete access to their customers’ personal account details including credit card numbers, names, address etc.

You can imagine the sheer damage the company would have to face if illegal transactions were made on each of the customers cards or worst still: identity frauds.

They immediately imposed a strict emergency rule and that was to immediately stop customers’ access from login into their hosting accounts.

Now I understand why they did this but I didn’t agree on many points.

1) People were left stranded from accessing their sites for many days and weeks. Now, imagine if you run an ecommerce site churning away more than £500,000 a month and suddenly your business could not operate because you were not allowed access.

Imagine also if you had a key to your house and suddenly someone from somewhere refused your entry. I know this sounds ridiculous but it’s a good metaphor to describe the situation.

2) New access codes would only be sent via post. Bear in mind that when this happened, we had Royal Mail strikes that would result in further delay in post deliveries.

3) People had to wait hours on end to speak to their customer services. I did make a call and I was number 57 on the call list. Thirty minutes later, I was on number 56 and I hung up.

4) Emails sent were not replied nor entertained.

Customers were getting nervous. The internet forums were inundated with new discussion threads. In fact, if you did a search on Fasthosts on either Google or Yahoo, you’d still be able to access numerous news articles.

I received my access codes just before Christmas and I quickly switched all my sites to a new hosting company. Honestly, it wasn’t that hard of a decision to make…

So, what can we learn from this story?

Look, running a business is not always smooth sailing. There are its ups and downs. You will never know what’s coming next. It’s filled with uncertainties.

The question that you need to ask yourself is….Am I ready?

Let’s think about this for a minute…

If a major crisis occurs to your business then will you be prepared for it?

Will you have any contingency plans to bring your business back to normality without affecting your customers?

Are you ready physically and psychologically?

What about financially?

It’s difficult isn’t it?

You see, a business is a system. Just like anything in life.

Imagine if you were about to come down with a fever. Your body defence system would give you all sorts of signals warning you ahead of time so you can take precautionary measures.

Similarly in business, a system will act as a ‘silent alarm to alert you on any shortcomings.

It’s clear that the damage has been done to Fasthosts. They’ve now lost their credibility and the majority of their customers’ trust. They could have easily avoided the mishap if only if they had managed it properly in the first place.

Look, even the world’s billionaire – Warren Buffet agrees,

“It takes 20 years to build a reputation and five minutes to ruin it. If you think about that, you’ll do things differently.”

In short, Im all for good crisis management

Look, a business should not consume all the time in your life. If your business NEEDS you to stay profitable then in my opinion, you don’t really have a business.

I know this may sound harsh but if you seriously want your business to grow, you need to concentrate on your BUSINESS.

Now, how do I mean by that?

Well, you need to create a fool proof SYSTEM where your business will always grow without you.

You must create a SYSTEM that allows you to enjoy yourself with family and friends and not be tied up with the daily routines of business.

Have a look around you…
McDonalds, Google, Microsoft, Nokia, Ikea, Walmart, Tesco and many other big conglomerates share the same business philosophy…

What is it?

Again, it’s called a SYSTEM.

Model this. Implement it.

OK Ambar, how can I create a system?

Simple – follow your passion and concentrate on it. You don’t have to be the best at everything. Leave other tasks to other people and outsource it whenever possible.

Get a success blueprint for your business and teach others to master it. Implement it in every facets of your business.

Delegate and trust people more.

You’ll soon realise that you can always be in control of your business with or without you.

Now, that is LIFE!

Many of us have dreams. Some of us want to amass material wealth

in a month! This individual is also one of the Amazon’s best selling business authors!

TWO: Speed To Action.

WHY: Take immediate action from everything that you’ve learned. Do not delay. The more you procrastinate,
the less likely that you will see it from happening.

Remember, speed is the keyword here and speed is the one skill you need to hone.

Successful people are aware of these principles and if the above is important to you, then take action now.

Go get a book relevant to what you want to improve on.

Read it. Devour the content.

Make some notes and take massive practical action immediately. Don’t wait till tomorrow. It has to be instant!

Witness great improvement in your lives. Get a list of books. Buy it or get it at your local library.

Try it for a month. No excuses.
